Hi. Have had my N97 for little over a month. In that time, the SW Update app offered the Nokia Messaging 10.1 and 10.2 updates, that were applied without any problems. However, now that the Ovi Maps 3.3 update is available, the updating process fails every time. Only thing I get is "Installation failed", with no further info as to the cause or how to remedy it.

In case this has a bearing, memory usage is:

Phone, 73MB total 39.6 used, 33.4 free

Mass: 29.8GB total, 749.3 MB used, 29.1 free

Memory card: 7.6 GB total, 18 MB used, 7.6 free

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem.

My N97 went to repair to a Nokia care center. It was returned with firmware 20.x . The SW application came with many updates to do, including the software wich I updated on PC over NSU and now is v. 21.0.045.  The Ovi maps update failled everytime I tried to install it.  Nokia maps doesn't work anymore and I receive a mesage that I need to update the application. I have 30.8 Mb free on C:

Any idea in how to solve this?

In the rest the phone is working better than before.

try to install those updates through Ovi suite and i say for the maps just update it through the Nokia Beta Labs.

Fail, unfortunately. Got the USB cable, fired up the ole PC. OVI Suite stated there was an update for it, so I got that updated first. After restart and after backing up the N97, OVI said the only app update outstanding was Mail for Exchange, which I don't want or need (don't use Exchange where I work). The 3.3 OVI Maps update was not offered.

Next tried using PC Suite, which was up to date. No phone updates were offered here neither!

However, Software Update on the phone continues to insist that the 3.3 update is available and continues to fail when I try to get it done. This is so frustrating.

What should I try next?

You can only update to maps 3.03 for N97 OTA. You can however go to Nokia Beta Labs on you pc, and download Maps3.04 Beta, which is new and improved, just download to computer then drag and drop onto phone .and install.

Ah! Fast tracking on the learning curve for all the various and sundry acronyms  of the technology...

BTW, researching further, read about an app called "Memory Reorganizer" which could help if the problem is due to insufficent space. However, it is not on the phone, nor does it appear on the OVI store. Would this be a good idea? Where can I find it?

It should appear in the SW updater app. But it might need fw v21 for what I know...

Memory reorganiser will download either Over The Air or via Ovi suite through software updates.

But best way to save space is to follow the many threads about saving space on C on the forum, save all apps to E, save all messages to E, delete and maove any app from C that you can and clear Privacy data on phone browser on a regular basis.......................

Do you have Nokia Software Updater on your computer ? You would need to use that for major software update and as far as I know NO ONE is still on V10 so try an update
