Nokia 5320 XM firmware bugs concerning date and alarm - when switching off the phone for the night

Hello!

Although already having twice sent in my Nokia 5320 XpressMusic for repair, I'm still suffering from severe firmware bugs concerning date and alarm of the device. Here some information on when and how the bugs are showing themselves:

  • Settings: A different weekly alarm is programmed for each day of the week. The phone is being switched off for the night.
  • The programmed alarm is being run correctly by the phone. The phone is being switched on after having disabled the alarm.
  • Some time later the date changes to four or five days in the future. Moreover the phone starts to ring for the day the date has changed to. Often it's not ringing at the time that has been programmed for that day, even though pretending to do so.
Example:
  • 9:45 on Sunday: phone is correctly ringing at the programmed time.
  • 10:15 on Sunday: phone is incorrectly ringing again pretending it was Friday 7:50
  • the clock remains unchanged, however the date has changed automatically for five days

Linked to this error, there seem to exist similar problems with date and snooze-function already mentioned on these forums:

/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=144139

/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=143893

As I mentioned above, I already sent my phone in twice, however I always got it back with the mention: repaired on guarantee. To me, this seems rather disgraceful for Nokia. I sincerely hope, that, if necessary with the pressure of other users being concerned as well, we arrive to get a phone that is really working as one could await it from the leader in mobile phone production!

I hope we will be informed soon about when there will be a firmware update!

Thanks for your replies!

Lorenz

yes the only solution is to leave your phone switched on,its very common and hopefully will be addressed sooner rather than later.

[ Edited ]

The thing is that:

  1. The battery runtime already isn't great. So I'd like to save some energy over night.
  2. I don't want to be bothered by calls or messages while sleeping.
  3. I don't want to have unnecessary radiation during the night.
So, like others, I absolutely need Nokia to deal with this problem. I don't just want to have to put my phone in offline-mode instead of shutting it down just because Nokia apparently can't/doesn't want to solve the errors in time...

Re: Nokia 5320 XM firmware bugs concerning date and alarm - when switching off the phone for the nig

Have the same problem, as I already mentioned in my posts too. But unfortunatly no reply from Nokia either. Seems they really don't care about it. It would be at least apropriate, that they at least announce time of new firmware and note if they will fix this problem with it.

But no replay from them :smileysad:  I contacted local nokia dealer in Slovenia, but they just say they can not help. And that we must wait for new firmware.

Now I wonder, when it should came out ?! I am sick of this trouble with my phone. and as you said, I am also turning off my phone since I want my battery to last longer. so this bug must be fixed.

Nokia team, anyone?!?!?

Re: Nokia 5320 XM firmware bugs concerning date and alarm - when switching off the phone for the nig

This is really annoying: Today I even had two false alarms: twenty minutes after the first (and correct) alarm, my phone just rang once again, without me having it programmed that way - I hadn't chosen the snooze-function either. However, the date still remained correct during that incorrect alarm. Only half an hour after the initial alarm (and 10 minutes after the first incorrect alarm), the date automatically changed from Monday to Saturday and the phone began to ring again, this time claiming it was Saturday 7a.m. ...

I'm really awaiting some response from Nokia! With these errors, the phone definitely isn't worth its money! I'm suffering from these issues since having bought it in January and - for nothing - I had it in "repair" for nearly a third of the time I'm owning it...

Totally agree with you I7or.  And the word to jimmyireland, it is like if you bought new car and you must not turn it off, otherwise it won't work properly. :smileyindifferent:  It is just not right. And we expect some answeres from nokia crew. But they just don't wanna hear of our troubles

Re: Nokia 5320 XM firmware bugs concerning date and alarm - when switching off the phone for the nig

Two days ago I had sent a message to Nokia with a detailed description of what is wrong with their firmware on Nokia 5320. Today I got back a message that said nothing at all about the problems themselves. It contained nothing but standard phrases that you can find word-for-word when typing them into Google. Apparently their "costumer service" has the only goal of rejecting inquiries with friendly phrases. They told me that they weren't able to judge on technical problems concerning their own devices and that they couldn't tell me whether or not (/when) Nokia will be releasing a firmware that makes the phone work correctly.

Think twice when buying your next mobile phone...

As it looks like all the newer Nokia phones have this problem. As for the moment you can only complain to Nokia and ask for a solution.

In the meantime I don't switch off the phone but choose the Offline profile over night. This will solve issue 2 and 3 from above.

I know this is not a solution but a workaround at least I can live with.
