Re: Welcome all new members from the Middle East, Africa, Australia & New Zealand

Van,

You might want to ask the web team if they'd like to re-think their placement of Pakistan in the Middle-East. That's the last place I'd have thought to look for it...

The Indias being Asia Minor, I would have thought Asia to be a more logical place to find Pakistan.

Even from an Internet point of view, Pakistan falls under the jurisdiction of APNIC (Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre) while the Middle East falls under that of AfriNIC!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East says
"One widely used definition of the "Middle East" is that of the airline industry, maintained by the IATA standards organization. This definition — as of early 2007 — includes Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestinian territories, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.[10] This definition is used in world-wide airfare and tax calculations for passengers and cargo."

But I guess I would have also started to look for it under Asia first. I believe the local Nokia sales office in Pakistan is managed from the Nokia Middle East head office (located in Dubai), which may also be a reason for this.

Re: Welcome all new members from the Middle East, Africa, Australia & New Zealand

Pakistan used to be part of India until 1947 but is now, as you rightly say, part of the "Greater Middle East". Quoting from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan :

"Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country located in South Asia, Greater Middle East and converges with Central Asia and the Middle East."

So, you pay your money and take your pick...

We should leave it to the Pakistanis to decide since as they are the ones who should know best and who will be searching for their local support sites.
