Hi,
The problem is the same as with the Nokia E75.Themethod hereafter worked for me on the E75 and also on N97
You can solve this issue like this.
1) make a hardware reset of your E72 (You need a fresh system)
2) via a Browser (on your pc), log in to your intellisync server via your login and pwd you received from your adminstrator
3) Choose "settings"
4) Choose "Add sync device"
5) Choose "Symbian OS-Based Mobile Phone"
6) Choose "Yes, Send instructions to your device" and select "Carrier and Phone Number"
7) Enter the needed information for "Manfuctaurer", "country" and "operator"
8) Enter your mobile phone number.
9) CLICK "send message"
10) you should get an sms with a link to install the software on your E72.
11) Click on the link in the receveid SMS.
12) This should install the needed client compatible with the intellisync server.
After that, you are also able to upgrade your Nokia messaging application to a newer version while keeping all the ssting for your intelliysnc server.
Note: If you don't get an sms try a different mobile Operator as some operators do not allow to use their SMS center via an internet request or also ask to your administrator if the IP port to reach the sms centre from the mobile operator is opened (normaly well)
Please let me know if this works as I will get soon an E72 in order to test this functionality too.

Hi yvesdelvaux,
Thank you for your instruction. However, I have already tried as per your advise and still got the same error. Not sure if any alternative here or need to wait for Nokia to correct this.

Hello
I traded my Nokia E71 with the Nokia E72.
Unfortunately the installation of the Intellisync client doesn't work.
During the installation I register the same problem as on the Nokia E75.
Error message:
"Nokia Intellisync Mobile
An incompatible version of this product has been detected, and has to be unistalled first."
I hope Nokia search a solution for the two devices.

I received a E72 today.firmware 021.024
I tested via the method explained hereabove. it works perfectly and you don't need to install any client. It use the Email client of the E72 (Nokia Email 2.1.0)
Actions to perform
1) Login on your PC to your IMS server (We are running version 9) with your IMS credentials
2) send a sms to your phone when adding a new sync device
3) once received on the phone, it opens directly the configuration of the mail client of the E72
4) enter your mailbox password and get automatically connected. (I didn't need to enter the server and the login name)
This is the most easiest way to configure the intellisysnc client on the symbian platform I have seen.
PS: my E72 was completly new out of the box without any configuration before doing the actions described hereabove..
good luck.

Hi delvalux,
You're the man! Got this working now. Thank you very much to you and all for the great assistant.

Hi all,
unfortunately, delvalux's tip didn't work for me. I receive the SMS on the phone (after sending through the phone's browser, since we apparently have no browser access), start the installation and the phone says "Connecting server", which always ends up with "Unable to connect to server.Try again later."
Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I think you are not able to perform the operation i described in my post when your are connected to the IMS server via your Mobile browser. I just tried right now and I can't get access to the menu "Add a new sync device".
Sorry But I can't help you further with this issue
I think you should contact your IT administrator so that He can send the sms to your phone on your behalf.
Regards

HI
I am having the same problem. I hard reset the E72 and then had the server send the sms to me. However, I still get the message that ther server cannot be reached.
I need help. Are you supposed to install firmware 021.024 first. I received the phone yesterday here in South Africa.
PLEASE HELP NOKIA.

Hi,
I read somwhere on the Nokia website that Nokia E72 does not support the Intellisync application. All of you have talked about having an sms sent to your phone....but in South Africa this is not possible....Or atleast I have tried it but the available mobile operators are not South African.
I will give it a go again....when my E72 is back from repairs - it became extremely slow and refused to pick up mobile signal and could not access any applications like phonebook, messaging etc....pretty much stopped working. Waiting for the technical repair team to collect it, repair it and return it to me.
Hope none of you have experienced that yet.
Cheers

You can try different SMS centers providers. It depends on the provider. Perhaps your own provider does not offer this service. Try all of those that are available. You will perhaps find that is OK.

Sending the installation by SMS works on E72, but since Nokia is ending their support for Intellisync by sept 2010 they will remove the server soon. They said summer 2010, hopefully they will keep their sms-gateway up and running until sept 2010.
If you get the error "can not connect to server", try to hard reset the phone (*#7370#) and only install one access point. The problem with intellisync is that it chooses one of your access points (might as well be the mms access point) and you can not change that. The solution might be to remove all access points by doing a hard reset and then add just one access point that you know is working. To verify this try to browse the internet from the phone, if that works the access point works too.

I have to correct my own posting. Looks like sending an SMS install link does not work on firmware 031.023 from 31-mar-2010. This is the lastest firmware for E72 as of july. I tried sending an sms install link to my E52 with firmware 034.001 from 02-Apr-2010 and it works fine. Doesn't look like access points is the problem. I have deleted all access points and kept just one. It still hangs on "can not connect to server"... Bummer..
