This is a cross post for a solution which worked for an E65 and 6110 Nokia in a 2008 BMW 320i with iDrive my girlfriend just bought. Note it'd therefore have the latest BMW firmware... but I'm not sure that's the issue. It seems to be Nok related... specifically, S60 based phones. A link to identify S60 phones is
http://www.s60.comBackground:
- Both phones are 6 to 9 months old. My E65 had already received a firmware update some time ago.
- Neither phone would transfer contacts to the BMW. Both worked fine in all other ways.
- I tried many combinations of the "sync profile" method detailed previously and found it would not work.
- I tried to "send contacts" from the contact list to the BMW and that would not work.
- I tried to "data transfer" from the phone and found the BMW was not supported.
- I downloaded and installed the "Nokia 810 Contact Download Application for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices" from
http://europe.nokia.com/A4143881 and found that didn't work.
Solution 1: SUCCESSFUL
- I updated the "Nokia Firmware Downloader" under the instructions of PC Suite which I already had installed.
- I updated the firmware on my E65 and enjoyed that it wiped my contacts.
- I deleted the existing pairing on the phone and car.
- I added one simple contact to the phone contacts list.
- I checked the installed "Contact Download Application" was running on the phone.
- I paired the phone and car and immediately saw a transfer of the contact I had entered.
So happy with my win, I set about repeating the process with the 6110 taking on board a few lessons, but also attempting to streamline for others.
Solution 2: FAILED***
- I deleted the existing pairing on the phone and car.
- I checked the installed "Contact Download Application" was running on the phone.
- I paired the phone and car and nothing seemed to happen, even after a few tries at reinitiating the Bluetooth connection by switching the car on and off.
I figured there was a requirement that the phone's firmware be updated, so started again.
Solution 3: SUCCESSFUL
- I set about doing backups using PC Suite and also the phone's system for saving content to the memory card.
- I updated the 6110 using PC Suite noting my girlfriend has better luck than I as all her contacts remained.
- I deleted the existing pairing on the phone and car.
- I checked the installed "Contact Download Application" was running on the phone (it had remained installed despite the firmware update).
- I paired the phone and car and nothing seemed to happen, even after a few tries at reinitiating the Bluetooth connection by switching the car on and off and on again.
- Whilst staring at the miserable POS for a while (and pointlessly poking with the "Contact Download Application") I noticed the transfer commence and all contacts come across from the phone to the car.
- I estimate it took 2 minutes for the transfer to commence with the 6110, and note it did not have a particularly large number of contacts. Once it stared it was damned quick.
I was, of course, totally chuffed and guaranteed an excellent breakfast.
I propose someone try the above method with an N95 to the letter to see if it works. Don't shortcut and make sure everything is the absolute latest revision. Hopefully all goes well and someone else can try the following.
SOLUTION 4: UNPROVEN
- Ignore firmware updating on phone.
- Delete the existing pairing on the phone and car.
- Download and install the "Nokia 810 Contact Download Application for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices" from
http://europe.nokia.com/A4143881 .
- Check the installed "Contact Download Application" is running on the phone.
- Pair the phone and car then reinitiate the Bluetooth connection by switching the car on and off and on again.
- WAIT for the transfer to commence and all contacts to come across from the phone to the car.
I really hope this progresses some of the S60 operating system connectivity issues out there, and highlight that as of last night I was a total noob. It's all trial, error, analysis and patience!
